Syracuse, N.Y. – The Rev. Jennifer “Jo” VonRue spent three days in Minneapolis last month watching a community mobilize against federal immigration agents.
She stayed downtown near the protests and said she saw a community in a state of constant readiness. Churches packing food. Medical students delivering prescriptions. Residents ready to honk horns or blow whistles at the first sign of immigration and border patrol officials.
VonRue was one of over 600 clergy members who responded to a call put out by her Unitarian Universalist colleagues in Minneapolis asking for support and witnesses. She returned Jan. 24 with a mission to prepare Syracuse before ICE enforcement here escalates further…
