Syracuse Mayor shares details on new ‘nightlife coordinator’ as permit frustrations remain

Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens announced the creation of a nightlife coordinator position during her State of the City address, aiming to make the city more inviting for younger crowds and support local downtown businesses.

The ‘night mayor’ would serve as a liaison between the city and venues to assist with licensing. Mayor Owens explained the reasoning behind the nightlife coordinator, saying, “Really having an eclectic choice of opportunities and venues after city hall closes and particularly when people like me are in bed by 9:30 p.m., but a city needs to continue to live and breathe and have different opportunities.”
