Syracuse council moves in new direction on license plate readers

The city of Syracuse is switching vendors for its police license plate readers.

The Syracuse Common Council on Monday votes to pass an agreement with Axon to install 26 new license plate readers. The five-year agreement, which comes at a cost of $422,000, goes into effect March 1.

The city presently works with Flock for the same technology, but city leaders expressed concerns about the collection and sharing of personal information under that arrangement…
