Syracuse, N.Y. – Jan Sterling has loved weather since he was a kid growing up in the rural Oneida County town of Westernville.
Sterling remembers photos his mother took of snow nearly up to the roof in 1947, the year he was born. He recalls the big storm of 1961 and of course the Blizzard of 1966.
But Sterling, who could interpret upper air patterns on weather maps in high school, had never heard any tales of an epic 1946 storm that the record books said had brought 34 inches of snow to Syracuse in a single day…
