CJ’s Seafoods, a Friday fish fry tradition on Syracuse’s North Side, appears to have closed for good

Syracuse, N.Y. — For generations of Syracuse families, a trip to CJ’s Seafoods meant planning your week around Friday.

The small takeout shop at 2012 Teall Ave., known for its golden fried haddock, cash-only counter and limited hours, appears to have closed, ending a tradition that dates back more than 60 years.

The restaurant, which typically opened only on Fridays, Ash Wednesday and Christmas Eve, last planned to operate in early December. It shut down that week because of staffing shortages, and on Dec. 11 a message on the business’s Facebook page said it would be closed until further notice…
