Mo Brown launches primary bid to unseat Bill Magnarelli for NY Assembly seat in Syracuse

Maurice “Mo” Brown, a two-term Onondaga County lawmaker, plans to launch an insurgent Democratic primary campaign today to unseat Assemblymember Bill Magnarelli, one of the longest-serving elected officials in Central New York.

Brown, 33, a progressive activist and democratic socialist from Syracuse, said he decided to move forward with the primary challenge because of what he views as Magnarelli’s lack of urgency on big issues like affordability, housing and childcare.

In picking a primary fight, Brown will go up against an institution in Central New York politics as well as the local Democratic Party, which last week endorsed Magnarelli for a 15th term in Albany…
