SOLVAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV)—Some Solvay Electric customers are seeing sharply higher electric bills this winter, with several residents reporting their monthly costs doubled and others tripled following January’s extreme cold weather.
Martha Morabito, who lives in Solvay, said her last electric bill jumped from $260 in January to more than $500 in February, despite keeping her thermostat low and making no major changes to her energy consumption.
“I froze for two months,” she said. “I mean, I keep my heat at 63. I don’t understand how someone without a fixed income could absorb the cost of something like this.”…
