SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — After the 6 planet alignment occurred Saturday evening, another cool celestial event is taking place very early Tuesday morning. When does the lunar eclipse occur for CNY?

When is the eclipse?

If you happen to be up 2 to 3 hours before sunrise, look up and you may see the total lunar eclipse taking place. The lunar eclipse begins around a quarter of 4 am Tuesday in Syracuse and CNY and becomes totally eclipsed/covered by the earth’s shadow (umbra) just after 6 am with the maximum eclipse occurring at 6:33 am. The eclipse ends here in CNY due to the moon setting close to 7 am.
