Syracuse mayor tells I-81 Project Director to move into city or face termination

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens has given the city’s Interstate 81 project director an ultimatum: move into the city by the end of March or lose his job, according to the mayor’s office.

City officials confirmed that I-81 Project Director Joe Driscoll was told he must secure a residence within Syracuse by the end of March 2026 to remain employed.

According to the mayor’s office, Driscoll owns a single-family home in the city but informed the mayor-elect before Jan. 1 that, following his 2024 marriage, he was often living at his spouse’s residence outside city limits.
