Armed suspect on Syracuse University campus would ‘shoot ICE officers’ in Ithaca

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — An extreme risk protection order revealed the armed suspect on Syracuse University’s campus told investigators that he “would shoot ICE officers if they were to enter Ithaca.”

Mateau Healey-Parera, 22, of Mansfield Center, Conn., was arrested on March 7 outside of the Schine Student Center. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, a felony. The Syracuse Police Department found him with a 30-06 US Rock Island rifle with a scope and two boxes containing 40 rounds of ammo in a backpack.

An ERPO, which is a court order that allows law enforcement to seize the weapons of a person deemed a danger to themselves or others, said that Healey-Parera told investigators that he participated in a protest at Cornell University, where he is a student, prompting him to want to buy a weapon due to the presence of police officers who were at the protest…
