National Grid’s ambitious plan looks to turn wastewater into energy in Syracuse. A key question remains

Syracuse, N.Y. – Across the harbor from where Onondaga County is building a new aquarium, National Grid plans to construct a building that could make history by putting the company into a new line of business.

National Grid’s building would be part of a new system of pipes, pumps and other equipment to capture heat energy from wastewater and use it to heat and cool buildings at the Inner Harbor.

That’s right: The project would extract some of the heat from the water leaving our bathtubs, sinks and toilets – and turn it into heat for apartments and businesses…
