Wind advisory for parts of Upstate NY for Saturday — gusts may reach 45 mph

On Friday at 1:07 p.m. a wind advisory was released by the National Weather Service valid for Saturday between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. for Onondaga, Madison, Oneida, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga, Broome, Delaware and Sullivan counties.

“West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected,” states the weather service. “Strong westerly winds will develop late tonight behind a strong cold front pushing through the region. Gusty southerly winds are expected this afternoon into the overnight hours, but advisory criteria is not expected to be met.”

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result,” says the weather service. “Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.”
