City’s move from downtown into new Syracuse police and fire headquarters starts soon

Syracuse, N.Y. — The city’s public safety headquarters relocation from its downtown home of six decades to a redeveloped former factory on the West Side starts this week.

Moving for the roughly 30 fire department chiefs and civilian support staff should start Monday into the vacant six-story factory at 1153 W. Fayette St. and be finished within a few days, Fire Chief Michael Monds said. The SFD will occupy the building’s top floor.

The Syracuse Police Department’s relocation also starts next week but will take longer to finish. Almost the entire 500-person operation will move into the building and take up the first five floors plus an adjacent barn and a smaller storage building at the site…
