Man gets 25 years to life in Syracuse killing; judge cites ‘rage’

Syracuse, N.Y. — A 34-year-old man found guilty of fatally shooting a man because he believed his children were in imminent danger was sentenced to prison Monday.

Dashontay Kirkland, of Syracuse, was sentenced to 25 years for second-degree murder and 15 years for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Onondaga County Judge Gordon Cuffy ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning Kirkland will serve them at the same time.
