New ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie replaces actor from Upstate NY in major role

An actor from Upstate New York will be replaced in a major role for the next “Lord of the Rings” movie.

Viggo Mortensen, who was born in Watertown, N.Y., will not be returning as Middle-earth hero Aragorn in “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” according to Andy Serkis. Serkis, who will be directing the new “LOTR” film and playing Gollum again, told ScreenRant that Aragorn will be recast.

“I don’t know what’s out there at the moment, but I know there’s a lot of speculation, but let’s just say we are recasting the role and we are on the way to finding someone,” Serkis said…
