Tax returns for thousands of New Yorkers affected by typo: Report

A typo by the Department of Taxation and Finance resulted in more than 50,000 tax filers paying more in taxes or receiving smaller refunds, the Times Union reported.

The department said the reduced refunds for New York taxpayers were caused by a typo in a withholding table on tax forms. The error was discovered during the third week of February.

In a March notice, the department informed tax professionals about the typo affecting New York residents, specifically those married filing jointly or qualifying as a surviving spouse with an adjusted gross income ranging from $107,650 to $161,550…
