Fire tears through two-family home in Syracuse, leaves six displaced

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A fire tore through a two-family home on Syracuse’s south side Thursday morning, fire officials said.

At around 10:43 a.m., fire crews were called to the 100 block of Bennington Dr., where they found heavy flames and smoke in the rear of the 2½-story home. A statement from the Syracuse Fire Department said that some crews searched inside for anyone who could be trapped.

Outside, the fire department said crews faced high heat, requiring multiple hose lines and 25 minutes to bring the high-volume fire under control. The fire was fully out in 45 minutes.

All occupants were able to exit safely, and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters, the statement added. But six occupants were displaced and are currently receiving assistance from the Red Cross…
