Forensic pollen test points Canadian detectives to Seattle area to identify kayaker

SEATTLE — Forensic testing of pollen has provided a new clue in the mystery of an unidentified woman found in the waters off Vancouver, B.C. in 2022, suggesting she may have spent her final days in the Seattle or Portland area.

With the new evidence, Vancouver Police are renewing an appeal for help identifying the woman.

Police said a tugboat crew discovered the woman’s body floating in the waters off Spanish Banks on Sept. 29, 2022, at about 9:00 p.m. She was found near an inflatable blue kayak with an orange life jacket and had candy, insulin, and a backpack, but no identification.

The crew transported her body to the Kitsilano Coast Guard station, where Vancouver police began an investigation that was later transferred to the department’s Missing Persons Unit…
