A 76-year-old Eatonville woman was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on East Pioneer Way in Puyallup, a collision that shut down the busy roadway for hours and left another driver with serious injuries. Police are now looking for witnesses and video as they work to piece together what went wrong.

Victim identified

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s public portal has identified the victim as 76-year-old Marcella Magdalena Leiter of Eatonville, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. The agency posted her identification Friday, one day after the fatal wreck.

What happened

The crash occurred around 8:45 a.m. Thursday at 33rd Street Southeast and Pioneer Way East, near Farm 12. Officers attempted life-saving measures on Leiter at the scene, but she was pronounced dead, according to The News Tribune.

Police said the second vehicle was occupied by a 28-year-old woman from the Puyallup area and a 33-year-old man from Tacoma. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews transported the 28-year-old driver to Tacoma General Hospital with serious injuries. The passenger in that vehicle did not require immediate medical treatment.
