LAKEWOOD, Wash. — The state of Washington has agreed to pay an $80 million settlement to two Lakewood siblings who suffered life-altering injuries while in the care of their biological parents.
Attorneys for the children, Leo “Bubby” Strode and Matilda Strode, state the children suffered life-altering harm after being left in the care of their biological parents by caseworkers with the Department of Children, Youth and families (DCYF), Washington state’s child welfare agency.
The state will pay $45 million to Bubby and $34 million to Matilda. Their adoptive parents, Sarah and David Strode, will also receive settlement payments of $500,000 each. Per the agreement, 40% of the funds will be provided to the family’s attorney…
