Malnourished harbor seal pup rescued in Bellingham, recovering in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Wash. — A malnourished harbor seal pup found abandoned on the shores of Bellingham is recovering at a marine rehabilitation facility in Des Moines after being rescued, officials said.

The pup was brought to SeaLife Response, Rehab and Research, or SR3, where veterinary staff say the animal was likely separated from its mother after people got too close.

“It always takes maybe a couple of weeks to really see how they’re doing,” said Casey McLean, SR3’s executive director and veterinary nurse. “We notice she does have an eye infection we’re treating.”…
