Changes to historic Pierce Co. dock drew controversy. Construction is underway

Visitors to the Gig Harbor waterfront may notice a revamped marina next to Ancich Waterfront Park and the city’s future commercial fishing homeport.

On Aug. 26, a few workers were completing renovations at the dock at 3615 Harborview Dr., which now has a new ramp and finger piers. The pre-existing dock, Ancich Dock, was built decades earlier and once belonged to George Ancich and Nick Tarabochia, Jr., The News Tribune reported. The property also includes a single-family home and the historic Ancich-Tarabochia net shed. The net shed is around 100 years old, built around 1925; the dock was built some time later, according to Dawn Ancich, George Ancich’s daughter.

After her father’s passing, Ancich and her sisters along with Nick Tarabochia, Jr. owned and managed the property. They sold it to a private buyer, John Lee, she said in a phone call Aug. 31. The real estate excise tax affidavit says that Lee bought the two parcels of property for $2 million in 2021…
