The owner of a Tacoma market is now on the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters list after allegedly exchanging food benefits for cash and stealing over $600,000.
According to a news release from the FBI, the man — 64-year-old Manjit Bedi from Kent — told customers at his grocery store that he would give them money in exchange for their electronic benefits card from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
“For example, Bedi would charge $200 against a recipient’s EBT card, providing $100 in cash to the recipient and keeping the other $100 as profit,” the release said. “… Bedi pocketed at least $600,000 in SNAP benefits for food items that were never sold.”
