Yesterday, Stevens Pass , Washington, announced that it would likely close the back portion of its piste today due to “warm temperatures and rain,” citing snow safety concerns.
“We will evaluate conditions in the morning and determine at that time if any holds or additional closures are necessary on 7th Heaven, Tye Mill, and Kehr’s Chair,” the resort wrote on Instagram yesterday.
The current NOAA forecast for Stevens Pass calls for a mix of rain and freezing rain at Stevens this weekend, transitioning into just rain by Monday. Temperatures are set to drop by Thursday night, with the possibility of snowfall.
Other resorts in Washington, like the Summit at Snoqualmie and Crystal Mountain, are also set to get soaked over the next few days.
The National Weather Service shared on X yesterday that “There’s a nearly 60% chance” Seattle sees temperatures in the 60s on Monday and Tuesday. That’s downright balmy for January.
It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Pacific Northwest skiers, who were treated to heavy snowfall during the first portion of January. Hopefully, those high temperatures will blow through quickly.
