Man fatally shot by Pierce County deputies during stolen-car incident identified

A man who was fatally shot by Pierce County deputies last week near Lakewood has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Alexei Selivanoff, 31, died from multiple gunshot wounds on Jan. 24 near the 9600 block of 40th Avenue Southwest. His manner of death of is listed as a homicide, the medical examiner said in a media release.

Selivanoff was shot after deputies located him and other alleged car thieves near a stolen vehicle.

Two deputies located a stolen vehicle at about 11 a.m. and announced over the radio that it drove off. Deputies found the car unoccupied at the 9600 block of 40th Avenue South, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department on X.

Deputies located the suspected thieves and announced over the radio that one of them had a gun. Soon after, deputies reported that shots were fired. Selivanoff died at the scene. No deputies were injured.

The Pierce County Force Investigation Team was on the scene to conduct an independent investigation, the post said.
