‘Violators will be abducted’ sign warns drivers not to park near ‘The Maury Island Incident’ mural in Des Moines for more than 30 minutes

A new parking sign – with additional, ominous warnings – was installed recently near the Maury Island Incident Mural in Des Moines, limiting parking to 30 minutes.

The signage – located near the mural on the north side of Harper Studios (map below) – was likely placed to dissuade mysterious white vans and other vehicles from parking there and blocking the view. Many residents also felt like there were being monitored by whoever or whatever was in those parked vehicles.

Below the signage are two other signs:

  • “Alien Parking Only. Violators will be Abducted.”
  • “Alien Crossing.”

“Our PW (Public Works) staff installed new signage in front of the Maury Island Mural to limit parking,” Interim City Manager Tim George said. “They also had some fun with the signage. We received a nice note last week regarding their work below.”

One resident with ties to the mural and story seemed pretty happy.

“Thanks to the Council and staff! While we’ll all miss joking about the deep state CIA trucks monitoring this site, the art can now be seen and looks awesome,” said Steve Edmiston, screenwriter and Co-Producer of The Maury Island Incident film, which inspired the mural that was commissioned by John White.
