National retailer was closing 16 WA stores. It changed its mind about one in Tri-Cities

Big Lots Inc. is closing a raft of Washington stores amid a larger plan to shutter 315 of its 1,400 stores nationwide.

But its plans for the Tri-Cities have changed.

The Columbus, Ohio-based discount retailer (OTC: BIG) still intends to close its north Richland location. But it has reversed course about a second location, 3019 W. Kennewick Ave., which had been added to the closure list.

The Kennewick store will say open, Big Lots announced Nov. 7.

Kristen Cox, chief stores officer, credited associates, business partners and local shoppers for the reversal., in a press announcement.

The company described the continued operation as a “grand re-opening” that will feature 20% discounts for rewards members for the coming two weeks.

The Richland store, 1743 George Washington Way, is still tagged to close as are stores in Marysville, Spokane Valley, Vancouver and Tacoma.

There are also Big Lots locations in Longview, Moses Lake and Yakima.
