Oregon tied a single-game record with 10 sacks Saturday night against Washington freshman quarterback Demond Williams on their way to a 49-21 pasting of the Dawgs.
Including the sacks, the Ducks stingy, aggressive defense had a total of 16 tackles for loss. Williams and the 6-6 Huskies were behind the chains constantly. That allowed 12-0 Oregon to build leads of 28-6 in the second quarter and 49-14 in the fourth. A late touchdown pass by Williams made the drubbing look more respectable.
Returning from injury Jordan Burch led the pressure parade with 2.5 sacks. Matayo Uigalelei had two, giving him 10.5 for the year. Oregon’s single-season record for sacks is 13, by Ernest Jones in 1993 and Nick Reed in 2008.
After being frustrated by injuries on the defensive line throughout the year, Duck fans saw Saturday how devastating the group could be altogether. It wasn’t just that they made chopped turkey hash out of a freshman quarterback. They limited 1000-yard rusher Jonah Coleman to 11 carries for 3 yards.
