Owner of beloved Pierce County market and nursery says he plans to sell the business

The owner of the popular Red Barn Market & Nursery posted on social media that he plans to sell the business.

Dennis Kupchenko wrote Thursday that he’ll list the property at 14407 94th Ave. E. near Puyallup for sale Jan. 1.

“Over the past seven years, Red Barn Market & Nursery has been more than a business — it’s been my life, my passion, and my connection to this amazing community,” he wrote. “Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, but as I prepare for the next chapter of my life, I want to share my deepest thanks with all of you.”

Kupchenko took over the store in 2018 at the age of 19, The News Tribune reported. He worked with the previous owner, who offered to sell it to him.

Residents supported him and donated nearly $20,000 after burglars caused thousands of dollars in damage to the business several years ago.

“I took a leap of faith and bought a small green building called a fruit stand, full of potential and promise,” his social media post said. “With endless hours of hard work and the support of this community, I was able to transform it into what Red Barn Market & Nursery is today — a place that has brought people together, created memories, and become a part of so many lives.”
