After a lengthy investigation, county prosecutors have filed a vehicular assault charge against a man who’s alleged speeding caused a collision in Bremerton that significantly damaged five other cars and left one victim with long-lasting injuries.
On the afternoon of December 13, 2023, a 63-year-old man was driving a black Ford Expedition north on Wheaton Way at speeds believed to be over 80 mph before he hit one car, then continued along the road and crashed into the back end of three other vehicles and caused another traveling in the opposite direction to be struck as well.
According to the Kitsap Interagency Traffic Team’s report, filed in Kitsap County Superior Court this week, witnesses said the suspect was driving almost 50 miles over the street’s posted speed limit of 30 mph as he drove north from the road’s intersection with Sheridan Road to Sylvan Way.
