Attack on Puyallup student was recorded. Now, school district will pay $50K

The Puyallup School District will pay $50,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by a former Glacier View Junior High student who was the victim of a video-recorded assault in a school bathroom, court records show.

The student, who’s of southeast Asian descent and now in high school, and her parents sued the district last year alleging that PSD failed to protect the girl from racial targeting and bullying previously reported by her parents.

“While the district firmly denies the allegations, we agreed to a settlement to resolve the matter in lieu of costly, extended litigation,” PSD spokesperson Sarah Gillispie said in a statement Wednesday. “This resolution was reached solely as a practical measure and does not represent an admission of wrongdoing.”…
