This South Tacoma pizzeria doubles as a live music venue

For John J. Hayes, pizza isn’t just food—it’s family legacy, artistic expression, and a way to build community. Inspired by his father Tim’s lifelong passion and experience in the pizza business, John opened Slice of Life Pizzeria in 2017, carrying forward not only the recipes but also the spirit of creativity and connection that fuels everything he does.

Family remains at the heart of Slice of Life. John’s parents, Sue and Tim Hayes, are central figures in the story, and their support has been vital as he’s worked to establish the pizzeria as a Tacoma staple. “The beautiful people I meet who shine on me like sun and share tears with me in rain. My family who never stops supporting me. My band, I Blame Beatrice, and the music we all share in,” John reflects. For him, food, music, and family are inseparable—and Slice of Life is the space where they all come together.
