SEATTLE — Federal agents in Western Washington announced they seized more than 50,000 counterfeit pills containing carfentanil—a powerful synthetic opioid up to 100 times stronger than fentanyl—during a months-long investigation. The Drug Enforcement Administration warned the public that the drug is now appearing in pill form, increasing the risk of fatal overdoses among unsuspecting users.
