Spanaway couple who died in murder-suicide identified; surviving teen released to family

SPANAWAY, Wash. — A couple found dead in their Spanaway home last week are confirmed to have died from a murder-suicide, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office says.

The medical examiner released the identities and causes of death on Monday: Thomas Hayes, 57, died from a gunshot wound to the torso, classified as a homicide; Dawn Jones, 54, died from a contact gunshot wound to the head, ruled a suicide.
