The Magic Inside Tacoma’s Elephant House

In 2017, I was sitting on a kitchen stool in Steve and Natalie LaBerge’s Tacoma home, interviewing them for this very column. The topic was the odd light-up vehicle turned creature that was just beginning to be known to residents of Proctor as Crawlrus.

As I often do with this column, I was there to suss out a local Tacoma oddity and inform our readers just what that contraption parked in the driveway was. And though our eyes were trained on sweet Crawlrus glowing in the light of dusk, I couldn’t help but also marvel at the LaBerge’s North 30th Street home.

My mind went into overdrive when Steve casually mentioned there being a magician’s basement below my shoes…
