Foundation pays off mortgage for Yelm home of fallen Army sergeant

YELM, Wash. — In a heartfelt tribute this Veterans Day, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation will pay off the mortgage on the Yelm home of U.S. Army Sergeant Joshua Strickland, who was killed in action on Sept. 21, 2013, in Afghanistan, the foundation announced Tuesday.

This gesture is part of the foundation’s Gold Star Family Home Program, which honors the legacy of fallen service members by providing mortgage-free homes to their surviving families.

Heather Strickland, Sergeant Strickland’s widow, expressed her gratitude for the foundation’s generosity. “When I found out Tunnel to Towers would be paying off my mortgage, I was completely overwhelmed in the best way possible,” she said. “Knowing that my family will have a secure place to call home because of this incredible act of kindness is something I will never forget.”…
