Former Attorney Sentenced to Prison for Stealing Over $500,000 From Disabled Client

SEATTLE — A former Tacoma attorney was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to 18 months in federal prison for wire fraud after embezzling more than $530,000 from a vulnerable client’s trust account, U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd announced.

Colby Parks, 65, served as trustee for a woman who received about $1.66 million after suffering permanent injuries in a motorcycle crash. Over a decade, Parks siphoned more than $880,000 from her accounts, transferring the funds to his own bank accounts and using them to pay personal credit card bills. Prosecutors said he made more than 600 such transfers.

U.S. District Judge Richard A. Jones condemned Parks’ conduct, telling him that his “ethical barometer had to go off” as he stole from an elderly, disabled client…
