Pedestrian fatally struck by driver on SR 410 in Pierce County, troopers say

A driver struck and killed a pedestrian Monday night on state Route 410 in Sumner, according to the Washington State Patrol. Troopers said the man was walking in a traffic lane when he was hit.

The State Patrol reported the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway just east of Traffic Avenue.

Troopers are investigating the cause of the collision, but no drugs or alcohol are suspected to be involved. The driver of a 2007 Jeep Wrangler struck the man, and the vehicle came to a rest on the left shoulder. He was uninjured. Troopers said the driver was the initial caller, and he is not expected to face criminal charges…
