KENT, Wash. — Stepping up to protect and serve in the face of his own personal tragedy, Kent’s newest police officer, Michael Coury, was sworn in Thursday morning, inspired to join the force after a drunk driver killed his 12-year-old son, Gabriel, outside their home in 2023.
Coury told KOMO News it was the officer who responded to the crash scene that day and helped his family through that tragedy that, in part, inspired him to step up and become a police officer himself.
