TUMWATER, Wash. — Let’s Go Washington formally turned in signatures for two initiatives they hope will appear on the 2026 statewide ballot, proposals that reach into some of the most contentious corners of public education.
One measure would revive what supporters call a “Parents’ Bill of Rights,” reversing changes lawmakers made last year and requiring schools to notify parents more clearly and quickly about what is happening with their children. The other would require students to be verified as biologically female in order to compete in girls’ school sports.
Together, the initiatives have set off a new round of debate over parental authority, student privacy and how Washington defines fairness in school athletics…
