On February 10th, the Tacoma Public Schools have two replacement measures on the ballot for voters to consider. With a goal to maintain safe neighborhood schools, where every student has access to a high-quality education, technology and academic programs, TPS is asking for your support of Proposition 1 and Proposition 2.
The first proposition would fund 17% of educational programs and operations for day-to-day operations not covered by state funds including classroom teachers, nurses, counselors, librarians, paraeducators, custodians and coaches, plus up to date books and classroom learning materials. This proposition would fund programs to keep students on track for graduation, Career & Technical Education, improve access for students and staff with physical disabilities, high-achieving students and college entry exams, pre-school and after-school programs, arts, music, athletics and other extra-curricular activities.
Proposition 1 will maintain safe schools through repair of roofs, mechanical systems and extending the life of its buildings. It will allow for improvements to school safety and security, fire alarm systems, 911 communications and earthquake safety.
