Midnight Tacoma Drive-By At Northeast Intersection Leaves Two Hurt

Two people were wounded just after midnight Thursday in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of 29th Street Northeast and Norpoint Way Northeast in Tacoma, according to police. Officers arrived to find the pair inside a vehicle and had them taken to a hospital, where their injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Witnesses told officers that a second vehicle pulled alongside the victims’ car, its occupants opened fire, and then sped away. As of Thursday night, detectives were still working the case and no arrests had been reported.

What police say

According to The News Tribune, Tacoma Police Department spokeswoman Shelbie Boyd said officers were dispatched at about 12:05 a.m. to the intersection after reports of gunfire.

Forensics crews processed the intersection, and investigators said they are reviewing video and other evidence as they try to figure out whether the shooting was random or targeted, the paper reported. The victims’ ages and genders have not been released.
