Downtown Gig Harbor’s Grocery Drought Nears End With New Market This Fall

Downtown Gig Harbor’s long stretch without a neighborhood market may finally be winding down. Three years after Harbor General closed its doors, a new specialty market called Gather Gig Harbor is slated to open in the heart of town by fall, according to its owners.

The market, led by sisters Pouneh Minovi Kaufman and Mandy Minovi, will focus on custom charcuterie, soups, salads, sandwiches and ice cream, blending grab-and-go food with a slate of community programs. The pair bought a property on Harborview Drive earlier this year and are working through city approvals before construction begins.

As reported by The News Tribune, the front building on the site is expected to house the specialty foods market, while a second building in back is planned as a longer-term community event space. The owners told the paper they intend to meet Gig Harbor’s historic downtown design standards as they move through permitting and build-out.

Menu, suppliers and community programs

Gather Gig Harbor will tap into the owners’ existing catering operation, Harbor Bites and Boards, to stock prepackaged charcuterie and other ready-to-go offerings. “We plan to support local families facing food insecurity,” one owner wrote, according to The News Tribune…
