The ports of Benton, Walla Walla, and Pasco are partnering with the ports of Tacoma and Seattle to create an inland logistics hub aimed at expanding trade capacity across Eastern Washington.
An inland logistics hub functions much like a postal sorting center, but instead of handling mail and packages, it processes large shipping containers that can weigh hundreds of tons. The concept allows freight arriving at coastal ports to be transferred directly onto trains and shipped inland, where it can then be distributed to regional businesses.
