Power restored for more than 6,000 customers across Sumner, Bonney Lake, Puyallup after raccoon caused outage

More than 6,000 homes and businesses were without power in an area spanning Sumner, Bonney Lake, and Puyallup Tuesday morning.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) reported the outage around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Power was fully restored by 9 a.m. According to PSE, there were seven active outages in the area affecting 6,472 customers. Additionally, at least one school was offline.

PSE told KIRO Newsradio the outage was caused by a raccoon climbing a high wire and damaging circuits at a substation. The raccoon is OK, according to PSE, as crews spent the next four hours on repairs to get everyone back online…
