Gadsden schools audit finds $1.1 million budget overrun, repeat financial issues

QUINCY, Fla. — A new state audit found Gadsden County Schools exceeded its approved budget by over a million dollars and continued to face some of the same financial oversight problems identified in previous audits.

The findings, released by Florida Auditor General Sherrill Norman’s office, include a budget overrun in the district’s General Fund, deficiencies involving financial reporting and internal controls, and concerns about federal compliance requirements.

District leaders insist the problems identified in the audit are largely tied to issues that have already been corrected, while some residents say they still want a clearer explanation of how the district got to this point…
