Macy’s To Reportedly Layoff More Than 2,000​ Employees And Close 5 Stores In 2024

In hopes of cutting costs and improving customer experience, Macy’s has shared their plan to lay off over 13% of their corporate employees and close a total of five stores!

According to the Wall Street Journal, Macy’s Department stores plan to lay off 2,350 employees, including seasonal employees; weighing in about 3.5% of their workforce.

Reports read that a letter was sent out to employees on Thursday, January 25th advising staff members of the expected changes. It has been indicated that Macy’s pto add more automation to its supply chain and to outsource some roles, although the memo didn’t specify which jobs would be outsourced.

CBS News reports that the five stores scheduled to close are located in Arlington, Virginia (Ballston); San Leandro, California (Bay Fair); Lihue, Hawaii (Kukui Grove); Simi Valley, California (Simi Valley Town Center); and Tallahassee, Florida (Governor’s Square).

Wall Street Journal also reports that the company plans to minimize its management team in an effort to shorten the process of decision-making.
