FAMU’s Black History Month Events: Exciting Lineup for Local Residents

Florida A&M University (FAMU) will host several events for Black History Month. The events include a talk with Jerry Lorenzo, a FAMU alumnus and founder of the ‘Fear of God’ label, and the Harambee Festival showcasing local talent. The Historic Union Bank Museum will reopen on February 10 with a new exhibit about the bank’s role in Florida’s history, created with the Meek-Eaton Black Archives at FAMU.

On February 11, the HBCU Choral Festival will be held at the Lee Hall Auditorium. Performances will be given by Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, Mississippi Valley State University, and FAMU. Admission is free. On February 20, Jerry Lorenzo will discuss his career in fashion at the Lee Hall Auditorium.

FAMU Day at the Capitol is on February 21. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders will meet with legislators to discuss the University’s legislative priorities. The Spring Literary Forum, ‘American Stories, American Communities’, will be on February 22 with keynote speaker Jamila Minnicks, author of ‘Moonrise Over New Jessup’.
