A 17-year-old Lincoln High School student was taken into custody after the Leon County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that the student was making “explicit threats to harm fellow students.”
The high school junior was arrested on a charge of written threats, which is a second-degree felony. The student, who was not named, is being held in the local Juvenile Assessment Center.
“It was reported that the student, who had not been attending school and was in the process of unenrolling, returned to the school premises at the conclusion of the school day to pick someone up,” LCSO said in a news release.
After receiving a tip through Fortify, an app for anonymously reporting school safety concerns to law enforcement and school administrators, LCSO’s school resource deputies approached the student and “found probable cause” to take the person into custody.
“The FortifyFL app is available to anonymously report any suspicious, Leon County School-related activity or call 850-922-KIDS,” LCSO said.
