Woman struck by car, killed in northeast Tallahassee; seventh pedestrian death this year

A pedestrian was hit and killed Tuesday night in northeast Leon County.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the traffic fatality involved one vehicle around 9 p.m. on Mahan Drive near the intersection of Powderhorn Avenue.

The 37-year-old woman was in the roadway “for unknown reasons” when the car collided with her, according to a FHP news release.

“The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries from the collision and was pronounced deceased on scene,” FHP said.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Leon County EMS assisted FHP at the scene of the crash.

The woman becomes one of seven pedestrians killed in Leon County this year, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ Florida Crash Dashboard .

So far in 2024, there have been 128 vehicle crashes involving pedestrians, not counting Tuesday’s death, and 45 crashes involving bicyclists, with a single fatality.
